Papers are related to the many business interests of George J. Adams and are largely correspondence, bills and receipts. Many are related to various Rhode Island mills. Records include correspondence, 1851-1856, much with R.M. Larned, and the remainder with suppliers and agents; invoices, 1853-1855, of print cloths purchased from R.M. Larned and others; bills and receipts, 1853-1856; sales accounts, 1852-1854; correspondence, 1868-1872, about dyestuffs and madder; and general correspondence, 1868-1874, to Adams & Butterworth. Papers concerning individual mills include those of D.W. Vaughn & Co., Rhode Island Bleaching and Dye Works; Orion Cotton Mills, Greenwich Print Works, Narragansett Print Works, Newport Steam Factory, Atlantic DeLaine Mill, Union Steam Mill, Massasoit Steam Mill Co., Atlantic Print Works, and Lodi Print Works.
